Research Institute for Primordial Prevention of Non-Communicable Disease
Background:
Institute for Primordial Prevention of Non Communicable Disease (PPNCD) was established in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2014. This institute is consisted of three research centers: Child Growth and Development Research Center, Environment Research Center, and Pediatric Inherited Diseases Research Center. In this institute, scientist and researchers work together on the hot topics of preventing non -communicable disease (NCD) from the first periods of life. The collaboration of some well-known scientists in this field with PPNCD makes this institute an important scientific research center at national and regional levels.
Vision:
In order to accelerate the achievement of important national goals defined by The “20-Year National Vision” of the Islamic Republic of Iran and “Iran’s Health Innovation and Science Development Plan”, this institute aims to be a leading organization in performing high quality, targeted, and useful researches for health promotion based on the international criteria. These researches are mostly focused on the prevention and control of risky behaviors and risk factors that can predispose an individual to further NCD. Relying on the existing capabilities and empowering young researchers, PPNCD also aims to cooperate in the more powerful presence of the university in international scientific scenes.
Mission and Main Strategies:
The main goal of this institute is to determine and control behaviors and risk factors important in the development and incidence of NCD from early life. Since developing countries, including Iran, are predisposed to the epidemic of NCD in the upcoming years and there are no proven cures for these diseases, it is of gear importance to pay attention to their primordial and primary prevention.
Considering that NCDs are caused by the interplay between factors related to life style, environment and heredity, by the cooperation between our three research centers, we hope to provide useful solutions help in preventing the incidence of such diseases from early life. Hence, we hope to effectively improve the reduction of the NCD burden and to promote the community health.
The founder and scientific committee of this institute have extensive basic and clinical research experiences in the fields of primordial and primary prevention of NCD. The synergism of these experiences in the form of a research institute, lead to the implementation of useful researches through interdisciplinary collaboration, and also production of science and technology at national and international levels.
Values:
- Implementing ethics in research
- Emphasizing on the performance of useful researches
- Capacity building of young researchers
- Using research projects to produce science and technology
- Emphasizing on the maintenance of national resources and performing cost- effective research studies
- Providing an appropriate setting for the cooperation between basic and clinical scientists
- Providing infrastructures for research and data banking for national and international collaborations
Fields of cooperation’s (national, international):
Cooperation in evaluating the consequences of the interplay between factors related to lifestyle, environment and heredity in the incidence of NCD, and suggesting proper solutions for the primordial and primary prevention of these diseases and controlling their related risky behaviors and risk factors
Providing an appropriate research setting for the production, publication and knowledge transfer
Aims and scopes of Institute:
Capacity building of researchers Increasing the quantity and quality of the research projects focusing on the prevention of the diseases rather than their treatment
